A dated record of real changes to PlainComplaint's dataset and methodology. See the editorial & corrections policy for how reports are verified. We never backfill or invent an entry; an empty gap between dates means nothing material changed.

According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, PlainComplaint presents the public Consumer Complaint Database. See the methodology page for how the dataset is built.

  1. Index-surface

    Replaced portal-wide sitemap lastmods on file-authored pages with per-route page-vintage stamps (git ± CFPB data vintage) so crawl dates reflect real page edits instead of one shared rebuild stamp (1137cfc).

  2. Data integrity

    Hardened ETL rebuild guards so a full rebuild cannot silently destroy unrepopulatable rows, and so loaders run as subprocesses still trip the repopulation guard (a129c66, c0763a3).

  3. Correction

    Corrected fabricated entity counts in indexSurface reasons that had been mis-stated after a CSV-parsing bug; the root cause was documented honestly rather than as copy-paste drift (164eab4, 0983ee2).

  4. Data refresh

    Full CFPB Consumer Complaint Database rebuild completed (rebuild_completed 2026-06-27T02:36:21Z in _metadata).

  5. Launch

    PlainComplaint launched as a searchable view of the CFPB Consumer Complaint Database covering company, product, issue, and state surfaces (484929f / b69d572).
